Maybe for a 200 lb. track sprinter. I've been using QR skewers on my fixed gear road bikes for years. I always seemed to forget to bring a 15mm wrench, so I swapped the solid axle in a Record Pista hub for a hollow (120mm rear) Strada one + skewer. The only disadvantage I've noticed is that it is a bit fiddly to set chain tension and wheel alignment at the same time. Sure beats walking home or the anxiety of realizing 20 miles from home that although you have a pump and spare, should you flat you have no way to remove the wheel!
