My understanding is that the slots that went all the way through the crank arms were just done on the very first versions (1977?) and were quickly changed to the slots that only went part way through the arms. My quess would be because there was a breakage problem with these highly stressed parts.

Anyone have info or recollections on these cranks? Chuck Schmidt<<<<<

Chuck and all -

I don't have any definitive confirmation, but that is my recollection as well. I thought the fully milled versions were quite rare because they were produced for such a short time. I was just having a related conversation with a (possibly lurking) list member along this same vein. There is currently another Zeus crankset listed on eBay by cyclo24, and an 86 Trek also just sold with one.

The crankset listed is one of the partially milled versions and is identified as being part of the Zeus 2001 series. Is that accurate and could the change have been marketed as 2001? I thought that the partially milled versions were also the 2000 series. Is there a complete 2001 series? I know the 2000 series even included drop-outs (I have a set.) How extensive was the 2000 series of components? Can anyone verify the time frame?

Nothing like answering a question with a bunch more questions, eh?
