Eric and all,
I did actually "use" an adjustable stem on my Viking back in 1970. I don't think it came standard with the bike... I think it had a hole drilled in it to allow passage of the centerpull brake cable. Still have it, but not on the bike now.
I know it came in handy as the bike changed hands, and as my riding position s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out. Maybe back then I didn't know you could buy a different stem length, since there were no premiere bike shops around to browse.
Anyway, still seems like a good idea when I look around at all the different cinelli stems I have lying around, from the 80mm up to 130's!
