Dear CR members,

It appears I am just not going to be smart enough, or disciplined enough, to subscribe to this list without committing repeated flagrant violations such as the one Dale references in his e-mail to me below. I just can't seem to completely "understand what the rules and scope of this list are."

I thought the offer of a free bike log to list members was something you all might enjoy and find useful. I thought that even though this MS Excel-based log uses modern computer technology (which, ironically, so does this internet based CR forum), it would be of use to those of you who, like me, ride classic bikes. It is kind of nice to be able to tell the next buyer how many actual miles a bike has on it, or to see how well these "old" bikes perform against the modern-era bikes.

In all honesty, I must admit this is not my first violation. A while back, I listed a lugged steel Italian bike on the CR list and sold it to a very nice and appreciative CR member. However, I did forgot to list my hometown in the posting.

In that same posting to the CR list, I made the mistake of reading and using, but evidently misinterpreting, the CR website guidelines. It reads, "The Classic Rendezvous list focusses on bicycles made from the beginning of the Twentieth Century, up to the early 1980s. Certain handbuilt, classic style modern bikes are considered "on topic" here."

With that, I thought a hand-built, classic style modern Italian steel lugged road bike from 1991 would fall under the latter sentence of the guidelines from the website. It appears I was incorrect in my interpretation.

To those many of you who have written to me today asking for a copy of the bike log, I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to share it with others cyclists.

For those of you who would still like a copy, please e-mail me off-line and I will send you one.

For those of you who would have written Dale and "called him on the carpet for not booting me off the CR list", please don't bother.

Thanks,

Frank Phillips
