Now that you mention it, a solid nutted axle is probably neutral in the
section between the cones. A QR axle is under compression as well as being
hollow. I think the compression doesn't do it any favors regarding resisting
being bent. It would be interesting to hear of anyone who has used hollow
nutted axles on a 6 or 7 speed set up.
