My name is Ivan Shukster and live in Medicine Hat Alberta. Found out about this list from Phil Brown on a Saab list because I was asking questions about a Saab convertible we are buying and mentioned I had an older Italian road bike. I greatly enjoy riding it but also have a one year old mountain bike that replaces a 15 year old mtn bike but you do not want to hear about it. My bike is a ten speed Doniselli. I am the third owner but probably only the second to ride it. The original owner imported it into Canada in 1963 or 64. The frame was the wrong size and he was going to send it back but his friend Gary decided he wanted it instead. This was in Ontario. I came into the life of this bike in 1978 in Prince George B.C. were Gary had a stamp and coin shop and no longer rode bikes. I traded some stamps and a guitar for the Doniselli and a Gitan that weighed about 100 thousand pounds. I later traded the Gitane for a Rolleichord 2 1/4 camera. The bike's paint job was terrible and both came equipped with baby seats. Since I got the bike I replaced the Universal brakes with Campy grand Sport sidepulls, the font derailleur with a more modern Campy Grand Sport and the original cottered crankset with a Campy Grand Sport. All these components were on discontinued sales in Edmonton Alberta and Boulder Colorado. I also did not like the original Brooks saddle and replaced it with a new one. The new Brooks allows me to not sit on steel bolts as the first one was totally without form and no support. I also replaced the rims as they had tubulars and had flats on a daily basis. Unformtualey I had to replace one of the front rims as a lady in her mountain bike ploughed into the front wheel and bent the rim. The new rim (which look about a month to find) looks out of place. The original crank had worn 52 and 50 rings and was useless for any hills.I also stripped the bike and had it painted. The pedals were very pitted and I found a great deal on Grand Sport ones so that is what is on the bike as well. What is original is the rear derailleur and hubs, both Campy, the bottom bracket, the L. Magistoni headset and the Cinelli handlebars, seat post and the frame and forks. Leather handlebar tape replaced the metallic blue plastic stuff the PO had on it. Have not rode it this year yet as the city is still in the process of removing the gravel they put on for the winter but any day now.
