Letter postmarked 12 March, 2002:

My dear byke friends

First off all, please, excuse my answering late, but I wasn't in Italy, and so just now I have read all your e-mail messages. Considering the great amount of information requests we have received, it is clear that the article, issued on "Velo News" has been impressed in many American cyclists.

I'll be concise, even if, I promise you that within 2 weeks, will be create a new web-site just and exclusively abut the "Eroica".

This manifestation, unique of its kind, runs along "white roads" and suggests that sort of "pionieers' cyclism", we can bring back to the 1th half off the XX Century, when the bykes were followed by old-aged cars and motor-cycles.

29 September 2002 (Sunday) there is the new edition of the Eroica, that is been divided into several routes: a) 75 km (35 white roads); b) 220 km (145 white roads); c) it can be used every kind of bykes, even if, racers, who run with old-aged bicycles (that is, before 1980) have special awards and of course, special classification, too.

The 220 km route is panoramic and suggestive one, because it runs along the most beautiful villages of Siena, in the South of Tuscany. Beyond this, the 220 km route is a competition race with position order, special awards and degrees.

It is forbidden every kind of help, that is, every racer must be self-sufficient: there are 3 old-aged break-points along the aforesaid route.

The 1th start is at the 4 o'clock a.m. (old-aged bicycles, while for the strongest racers the start is at 7 o'clock a.m.; and the 3rd is after the 7 o'clock a.m.

The price to participate is 15 Euro. Naturally, the "Eroica" starts from/and arrives to Gaiole in Chianti (Siena) - a little, wonderful village in the heart of Chianti, 27 km far from Siena, and 55 km far from Florence.

Considering that american racers are very interested in the "Eroica" very soon the great Andy Hampstean (ex-american very known cyclist), who knows very well the "Chiantishire" and me (Giancarlo Brocci) have decided to organize different journeys' proposals for everyone, who intends coming and participating to the race.

Please, for further information, contact us by the new web-site, hoping as well in a new article on the "Velo News", in the meantime.

(signed) GIANCARLO BROCCI

P.S. It is possible to make all the race in two legs: 1th: 28 September (Saturday); and 2nd: 29 September; of course this isn't a competition race, but a cycle tour for nature and bykes lovers; so there aren't any award.
