Subject: [CR]Stronglight 99 rarity & rumor

I recently was told that Stronglight has reintroduced a crankset using the 86 mm bolt pattern used for the 99. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Stronglight 99 crankset is a favorite of mine. I have used one for 20 years on my touring bike. Mine is for French threaded pedals. I would probably be smart to retap the arms to 9/16 so I could replace the pedal or spindle easily if I needed to out in the boondocks, but I keep using it my French threaded Campagnola NR pedals.

I would think that the 99 was commonly used in the 70's for tandems (cheaper & easier to set up compared to TA Cycletourist?). They now are probably more obsolete than rare. SR & maybe some others used 86 mm bolt pattern. I just supplied 2 NOS 52t drilled out Stronglight rings to someone locally who wanted them to use as timing ring on his tandem. That's what they wanted...BIG timing rings.

The later Stronglight 99 cranks were not as nicely finished as the earlier ones.
