Subject: [CR]Sturmey-Archer 3 speed hub question

It's S-A AW hub. Is there any functional difference between running the shift cable along the toptube and down the seatstay, vs down the down tube and along the chainstay? The donor was a mixte frame so dictated cable routing. I'm using this Raleigh as a model for a slightly more modern interpretation: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/British/Raleigh_Lenton.htm It went along the toptube but my frame has a brazed-on top of bottom bracket cable guide. Would this BB cable guide with some cable liner be suitable vs the proper pulley? Thanks.
