In the Jan. '79 issue (pg.34) of Bicycling Magazine, there is a article about the recent Cologne tradeshow. I assume the Cologne show was held at the end of '78. Here's a quote:
"Campagnolo introduced a new, extra-rugged, lightweight Nuovo Super Record rear derailleur and announced that their new race-tested seat pillar is now available.."
Apparently, the single bolt microadjust seat post was announced a few years prior, but for whatever reason, was not available till approx. the very end of '78/beginning of '79. This was also discussed in the '77 Milan show article of the Feb. '78 Bicycling Magazine.
So even back in the '70s, Campy was announcing new product, with supporting literature, but failing to make it available for quite some time. Makes it kinda hard for everyone to agree on a proper introduction date.

Marc Borel mentioned that the Porta Catena (chain holder) was introduced at the Milan Trade Show held at the end of the year in 1977. Could the Catalog #17a Supplement (contents shown below) be from the same show?

1979 -- Catalog #17a Supplement is printed for the year-end trade shows. Included are a revised Super Record derailleur with script logo and different cage geometry, single bolt Nuovo Super Record seat post, Record front derailleur with four holes (later to be three) in cage, straight-band clamp (later to revert to traditional pointed-band clamp), short Nuovo Record dropouts without eyelets (drilled and taped for chain holder), chain holder with accompanying control lever and trigger, and fixing shoe-plate for pedals.
