Maybe it is time for a little historical perspective here: Through the years Tullio Campagnolo's first tier derailleurs were always designed solely for professional racing use. Using it for anything other than it's intended purpose was done so solely at the discretion of the user.

Until the late eighties and Campagnolo's unsuccessful early attempts at indexing (after Tullio's death I might add and outside the timeline of the CR list) there was only Campagnolo when you were talking about pro racing equipment.

Equipment designed for recreation and touring riders was something else indeed. Choices other than Gran Sport, Record, Nuovo Record, Super Record might make more sense in those cases. For me personally, "using racing equipment on the street" so to say, was never a problem.
