I spread the rear triangles of my steel frames from 120 or 126 to 130mm, if necessary, then realign everything and put modern wheels on. I wish I did not have to do this, but with steel and care it has so far been perfectly functional. I am not sure how this would "adulturate" a frame, since I could still squeeze it back together once and make a wall-hanging for some collector with it, couldn't I ?
I consider realigning misaligned frames to be about the same, functionally, as changing the rear spacing slightly. You realign misaligned frames, don't you, even crash-damaged stuff ? I wouldn't do this with Ti/Carbon/Aluminium frames, but that's not the issue here, for me. Am I "adulturating" my 1973 Raleigh Pro frame by running 130mm wide Shimano 8-speed STI-compatible freehub wheels on it ???
I do use a period-correct Weyless ti water bottle cage on it (thanks to Ken) ! :-)
