My wife and I drove down to Florida the day after the Cirque for a quick visit with my parents who live in Lady Lake just west and a bit north of Orlando. My father informed me that someone was going to open a bike shop here at the retirement community that they live in. He also told me that they have a newly formed cycle club. Well I just had to call the contact at the club and see if they had any rides while we were in town. It turns out that they have four rides a week and we would be here for the Thursday ride which was a 30 mile intermediate ride. We were to meet at one of the recreation centers here in The Villages at 8:00am. My wife and I rolled up ten ‘til and met Jim Mount who was to be our ride leader today. This first thing I noticed was the red Sachs he was straddling. We talked about his bike as while and then met some other folks and then off we go. There was a Frenchman on a Bridgestone something Criterium, my wife on her new old Colnago which I bought from Marty last weekend and me on my Medici. There were 12 of us all in all, but those were the bikes worth mentioning here. We did meet a man and his wife at a stop light upon leaving The Villages, but they didn’t join us which is a shamed as the lady was on what I believe might have been a De Rosa. I didn’t get a real good look, but upon passing her, she was stopped and facing the other direction, I noticed a frame that had been ridden a lot with no noticeable decals. What I did notice was the cutout in the downtube lug which looked very much like a De Rosa’s. Maybe next visit with the folks will reveal the identity of this bike.

Richie should remember this frame of his as it was a 60cm or so frame and Jim was from Connecticut. He was in a race several years ago and crashed the bike and then brought or sent the bike back to you to have the fork and seat stays fixed or replaced. At this time it looks good and well used, not beat mind you, but like he is getting many miles of enjoyable riding in on it.

Back to rain soaked West Virginia tomorrow.
