Herb's advice is excellent, I would like to add just one small thing. A lot
of painters prefer to remove the masking tape while the paint is still a
little "wet". That way the edge softens to a rounded shape that blends with
the underlying paint. If you wait until the paint is dry, you end up with a
square edge you can feel.
