Maybe out in California, and in the front, all there is to hit is the road with the pedal. Get pushed to the inside, on a narrow road in the East and you can hit a curb with the end of the arm or with small clipless pedals.

Yes, most of the time it is the pedal, and used clipped pedals from the 80s show it.

I've seen the end of an arm scraped on many used racing bikes.
