2.) Campy will never license its name to a third party company to re-manufacture rubber components because: a.) quality control issues b.) legal liability for someone else's manufacturing mistakes c.) logistics required to police the licensing agreement are expensive

3.) Several third party companies make product replacement parts (Coolstop & Dia-Comp) that meet the functional and safety needs

4.) He implied that Campy is in the business of selling new and innovative products, not models discontinued for over 15 years.

As a result, Richard suggested that a aftermarket manufacturer named "Coolstop" makes the best replacement hoods and brake pads in multiple colors that are fully compatible with Campy NR/SR equipment. He could not provide recommended model names/numbers. He also mentioned that in quantity, the would probably be able to make custom runs of rubber products. Coolstop sells directly to bike stores and not to the public.

Does anyone have their address/telephone numbers

Hey Dale! how about CR custom brake hoods from Coolstop for the next Cirque! >>

Storino's answer is mostly BS. Point number 1 and point number 4 are the only truths here...

That business about never licensing anyone is really a crock as I would bet anything Campy never made those hoods or any other rubber products in-house anyway! Compared to the dollars they blow on many things, making up a few thousand sets of brake hoods is a sneeze in the bucket. The reality that they simply do not care.

No one makes gum rubber replacement hoods save Euro Asia Imports. . The colors were the old Ame hoods that have been gone for 10-165 years? Definitely not KoolStop. He is confusing those with their brake pads. All these are available from CDO, Sheldon Brown and Bicycle Classics as well as your local shop if you can get them off the pot.

In fact, Storino may be a very nice fellow in many contexts but he is essentially a salesman and has little to do with any decision making in that company. He is covering for the Big Boys so you and I will buy new stuff...
