For those who'd like a scenic--but fairly tough--vintage ride in SoCal, here's the deal.
Sunday July 21 2002
Meet in Marina del Rey (directions below). I'll be leaving from the Dock 52 parking lot at 11am sharp. Plenty of free parking there.
This is *not* a formally organized or sponsored ride. If you show up and happen to come along, great! I'll be bringing up the rear; this is a no-drop ride..
Vintage italian iron strongly encouraged, but ride whatever you like. The only actual proviso is that you have nothing smaller than a 42 in front, and nothing larger than a 26 in the rear. We're gonna mash up that hill!
Route follows the coast south to Palos Verdes, up PV Drive. Then around the front of the Peninsula (there are some wonderful coastline and ocean views all along the route, as well as plenty of places to stop and rest and/or gab.)
Then it's up PV Drive east, to the top of the Peninsula, taking a loop back to the beach bike path, and then back to Marina del Rey...there are several good places along the beach bikepath to stop and eat.
The ride is about 50 miles round-trip, with one quite tough hill, and a couple of less-tough hills. Lots of pretty scenery and sea air.
Here are directions to the start:
Take the 405 freeway to the 90 Marina freeway west. The freeway ends at Lincoln. Mindanao is the last cross street before you get to Lincoln
Turn left at the second signal (Mindanao).
Left again on Admiralty.
Right on Fiji. Look for the *Dock 52* sign just past the entrance to the boat launching area. It'll be on your right.
I hope to see you there.
Best,
Charles Andrews
