I was working at Pacific Bicycles in San Francisco in the early 80s, and I
remember Ross coming in with a pair of tubes, freshly fillet brazed
together. The fillet was small, with even ripples, and hadn't been filed;
very attractive. We started custom ordering them for some customers.
At the time, he was making mountian bikes. I bought one called "a la
Carte" which I still ride. All his bikes were fillet brazed back then.
I also ride an Ideor, which I think was made in the 50s. The fellow I
bought it from said he got it from American Cylery when he was young. It had
wood filled aluminum sew up tire rims (should have saved them) and Weinmann
centerpulls and a steel Campy seatpost. It was probably sold as a race bike
I put a lot of touring miles on it
I don't work in bike shops now, but I like tinkering around with a
torch, and have made a number of experimental portable folding bikes. Here's
the webpage.
