Last Year I got a call from J.P Weigle He was helping Joe Bell in locating Cuevas decals for a repaint. After a few phone calls ,I was able to locate a nephew of Andreas Cuevas, son of Francisco in Queens N.Y.. Unfortunitly, Andreas,@ 54 years old ,had suffered a stroke @ 1 1/2 years before. He is going to rehabilitation therapy and hopes to again build frames. His production was perhaps 200 to 300 frames total.
Pop is retired and living in Spain. The reputation of his work, although beautiful , is not great. At least not in my neck of the woods. Had 2,broke one. Minor: brake bridge crack. Mike Frasie, owner of Paris-Sport in Ridgefield Park,N.J. and then Pres. of the U.S.C.F., told me in 1981, after Francisco had departed, that HALF of Cuavas' frames broke. F.C. built in the rear of the store. F.C was followed by Dave Molton.(Before "Fuso") .
Back in 79 ,I stood behind F.C and watched him build my road frame. Can you say "cherry red"? Real pretty though. You know you got one when you see the "X" reinforcement in the stearer tube/ fork crown.
At the time,Andreas did the painting. Just my experiance. John T.Pergolizzi, after 50 mi. in Prospect Park, Brooklyn N.Y.
