Ray,
The Bicycle Thief is a classic! Wonderful film. And the subtitles are good--better to hear the movie in it's original language, I think--the emotion and urgency come through more that way.
For what it's worth, my wife says not to watch either movie unless you feel like being depressed. . . .
Umberto D is another classic, though not as well known as The Bicycle Thief. (It's even more depressing than The Bicycle Thief, though. . . .)
My thinking is this: after watching the films, I feel more appreciative for what I have . . . even if I don't own a classic, vintage Italian frame--or a French or British one for that matter! (One day. . . .)
