This is why I've seen a dozen or so of his bikes while living in Seattle and Portland and never anywhere else. For some reason I had it in my head that he was from the mid-west. I've worked in-depth on a few of his frames they all were top notch which is something I've noticed from most machinists turned framebuilders. One thing I always noticed was little quirky good things in his frames making no two look alike. One other thing is most of the frames of his I've seen were big (60+ cm). A Merz frame would be a fine addition to an American builders collection. enjoy, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives Watching Italy kick a leather ball around in Santa Barbara, Calif.
