ive tried putting double cogs on a threaded driver, but a) there
wasnt enough room and b) the driver i had had a deeper
bearing race than the standard splined driver, meaning slop
almighty in the hub, and uncorrectable... dunno if thats a
common problem. i just went back to splines.

this is something i should tell everyone who asks about my 3-speed - theyre *really* not as tough to work on as they seem. take one apart, exploded diagram in hand, and the reassemble a few times, and you should have it. eventually youll get to the point where when your friends ask "so how many parts are in a sturmey archer hub?" youll just stare off in the distance for a while, prompting them to ask "are you counting them in your head?", at which point youll grin sheepishly, and ask "how many parts, or how many types of parts?". your friends will then look at you with horror, and back away slightly.
the schwinn aw manual is a nice one to have. breaks it all down in writing. wish i could find my copy, just for reference.
