I can tell you that the Wolber Super Champion 58 came as standard on my 1985-vintage Cannondale loaded touring bike. They also were very popular standard equipment on other loaded-touring bikes around that time. Mine are 36 hole laced to unusual Suntour sealed-bearing hubs (NOT Superbe).
They've never seen a truing stand since I bought the bike new.
I currently have Panaracer Swifts on those rims, which have a folding bead. No problems - they have a standard hook-bead.
