No, you didn't miss anything. Just a bidding war for a set of $30 shifters that looked like it got out of hand!! I was watching that one all the way. Quite entertaining.
This can happen (surprise...) on eBay. I've seen items go stratospheric when three or more high-profile Japanese (or other) collectors get into a bidding war. Gotta say, though, that those TA pedals mentioned recently must be an all-time record-high price for an individual component (was it $2500?).
I've also seen the same phenomenon locally at "junque" auctions. Two known antique dealers will bid an item they could sell for $200 up to $400 or so, with one dealer eventually blinking, just so the other dealer doesn't get it! I guess it's never cheap to keep that ego fueled up!
