I recall Mavic rims with the serrated side walls coming on Paramounts that year. I also recall that Weinmann wood-filled rims could be had as an option, but this may have only been on the track bikes. I don't remember any Paramounts coming from the factory with Fiamme Red Labels, and Yellow Labels would never have been a stock item. Perhaps someone with dealer catalogs would be able to tell if these were ever an option. We sold about 25 Paramounts in 1973, and I bought one of the P13s.
At some point, Schwinn started replacing the manufacturer's label with their generic Schwinn Approved label. We always considered the Schwinn Approved moniker to be a way of being able to source parts from multiple vendors without worrying about pesky inconsistencies with the catalogs. However, most Schwinn Approved components were not exactly the same as the standard items they replaced. Usually the "improvements" were pretty minor, however. Also, parts from different manufacturers sometimes had different part numbers and often performed differently. For example, the centerpulls from Weinmann performed much better than the ones from Dia Compe, even though two otherwise identical bikes might come with either. The centerpull equipped Paramounts always came with Weinmann, which led me to believe that Schwinn recognized the difference, even if they would not admit to it.
Steve Barner, wishing that my P13 had been a better fit and that I had it today in Bolton, Vermont
