Subject: [CR]Introduction and two questions

Hello from the hot south,

I have been one of the many silent majority for the last month or so. Its about time I introduced myself. My first bicycle was an Indian purchased in the late 50's. Since then I've owned a mid 60's Schwinn Varsity, and an early 70's Schwinn Continental.

In college I worked at the local bike shop appropriately named "The Bike Shop" in Auburn, Ala. While working there I bought a Nishiki Professional. A few years later after reading about John Marino riding his race across America I ordered a metallic blue ( I liked the white but figured scrapes and dings would be too visible) Peugeot super Competition. This bicycle is still my everyday ride. We have completed many centuries, double centuries and one triple century together. Every part with the exception of the seatpost and seatpost binder bolt has worn out and been replaced with Campy parts. I could never sell this bike.

I have also owned a S/R equipped Ciocc and, Fisher and Trek mountain bikes. In order to simplify my life I recently sold all my bikes with exception of the Peugeot and bought my first Richard Sachs, a metallic green 25th anniversary #24/25. Unbelievable! I rode it for the first time yesterday and as soon as I finish this post we're going on another ride. I have two questions.

1) In the mid 60's I read a fictional novel about a young frenchman riding the Tour de France. I believe the main character's last name was Girrard. This book began my obsession with bicycles. I have been trying for years to locate the title and/or a copy. Does anyone remember this book?

2) I have used 3M Fasttac trim adhesive on my tubulars. Is there any difference between this product and 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive? I need to reglue the tires on the Richard Sachs before I kill myself.
