The Yellow Jersey is a great read, but wasn't the main character an older English racer, not a young French one? If I recall correctly, he had retired or planned to, but his directeur sportif convinced him to ride one more Tour, to help protect and teach a young phenomenon, a future star they had just hired. Maybe that's the "young frenchman" Duane remembers? It was written in '72 though, not mid 60s.

There were supposed to be two different endings - I think I heard the Euro ending was changed for the USA edition. Can't remember which I read but probably USA. Anyone know what was changed about the ending? Put "Spoiler" in the subject line if you talk about the ending - some people haven't read it yet!
