Last Friday I was invited over to my neighbors house to look at his new bike , well new for him , a 1948 Singer tandem .If you click on to the Hetchins site and then to the " other " listings that's the bike . I've never been much of a touring fan , except for looking at some French bikes in the mid ' 60 at Erney Orts shop across from the American Cyclery in San Francisco , I had forgotten how neat they really are . This bike has double taper diagonal braces , something truly elegant , there are four small rings brazed to the top tube to serve as brake cable guides , buy small I mean the large ones are about .040 thick and about .10 in diameter , I didn't have a caliper with me but the other two appeared to be about .020 thick and .080 in diameter . I could go on and on but you should look at the pictures , truly a wonderful piece of work .
