First, pronunciations are never fake, they're either closer or further from accurate...and a square anglo pronunciation of french or german or italian tends to make the speaker sound like an utter rube, even if they aren't one...something close to right, but not overpronounced, seems reasonable.

And, Chris, you're too elegant with your anglo versions...how about these?

couscous= "COWS-cows"

nicoise="nick-OY-see"

Huret="HER-ett"

Peugeot="PEW-got"

and my favorite: HORS-dew-vers.

I was also especially fond of a Cleveland friend's completely innocent "kol-NAY-goh"
