Greetings,
As a boy I watched a race through the streets of New London Conn. and picked out a gold colored SACHS as my ultimate dream bike. This was one season in the later 1970s. I am not sure which year it was but I remember seeing that bike with all its beautiful shiny drilled out Super Record Strada components along with the coolest paintjob in the race and those decals! All I could think about was the image of that bike. I remember talking to someone about it during the race and they told me about a Conn. builder who I knew nothing about. There were other sachs frames out there in the pack and the only one a can still see was a really cool golden/orange color with yellow/gold decals maybe? I rode home on my cheap tenspeed, that was so big I had to lean it on a car and climb aboard from an overturned milkcrate, dreaming about that road racer. Well, I'm putting this out because this is where I am from and it is what I remember for first really falling in love with the classic racing bike. Sure I was a bike freak already with my Campag cap and no Campy bike but it was then at that race that the love affair really began. Cycling sure beat running. I have always wanted a SACHS and someday I will get one. Older bikes are cool but the great bikes of the 1960s and 1970s cant be beat.
