I've got a friend who advocates spoking all the spokes on the outside of the hub, but only on the drive side, to effectively create a wider hub flange spacing for the drive side and reduce the dishing of the spokes. He started doing it mostly because today's 8, 9, and 10 cogsets create such horrenduous wheel dishes.

It looks to me like the person who "built" the wheels dropped all the non-drive-side (small-flange) spokes in from the inside, rather than to alternate them. I build my own wheels, though I'm not a pro like Jamie Swan or Sheldon; but this still doesn't look kosher to me.

Check out another Hi-Lo set of hubs, this tiem built up. The low flange side does however have extremely questionable spoke pattern that I would not expect to be very good for the spokes or hub. Any comments about this lacing pattern? The wheelset can be seen at:
