After half a lifetime, this Italophile finally got his first French bike (don't laugh), but I need some help to identify it. It's clearly in the PX-10 family and is a Euro model (purchased across the pond), not US model. There is no serial number on the frame though there appears to have been a small sticker on the bottom of the BB shell at one time (not riveted). I believe it's from 1979 or 1980.
Some details - the frame model decal denotes "Super Competition" which would make it a PXN10E, but the Reynold frame decal says "3 Tubes Renforces". The PXN10E had 531 stays as well as frame tubes while the PKN10E "Competition" was the model with the 3 main 531 tubes. I wonder if the 531 or "Super Competition" decal was applied by mistake? The forks are fully chromed and made from 531 which jives with the PXN10E specs. The headset is a steel Stronglight part that seems to be pretty robust. Dropouts are Simplex and the derailleur cable guide is a plastic (delrin?) unit under the BB shell.
The cranks are Stronglight with 52/45 chainrings, but I do not know the model (105bis?). In addition, the pedals are fairly cheap Lyotard (don't know the model) quill type with alloy cages and pressed steel bodies.
The derailleurs are Peugeot-labeled Simplex SX410TSP and SJA102. The shifters are alloy Simplex, plain friction (as used on the PKN10E). Wheels are Normandy Luxe Competition low-flange hubs with Mavic Module E 700C rims. Freewheel is a 6-speed Atom 77 (14-24) with a Sedis chain.
The brakes may not be original as the levers are drilled Mafac units and the calipers are Weinmann 605s. The 605s are found on the PKN10E while Mafac LS2 should be fitted to a PXN10E hence my uncertainty about what is original... the levers or the calipers? Seatpost is SR Laprade with a no-name French vinyl-over-plastic saddle (cheap).
