Mebbe I just don't get it, but why on earth would anyone want the serial number of a frame obliterated, unless they were trying to cover-up illegitimate ownership?

Would you re-stamp the same number somewhere else? Would it then look like a forgery of a Pog?

Sante (or his crewmember with his blessing) chose to put the number there - he also chose many other details of the frame - would you propose filing other things off or filling them in with brazing material if you didn't like the aesthetics of that particular bit? I don't like those cheap brake cable braze-ons that Mario used - should I grind them off of a mint Confente at repaint time?
