Well if you are a reader of Jobst Brandt posts on his trips and equipment failures you find that he has broken _every_ brand of crank made. Even steel ones!!! He is very tall and very light and loves climbing in the Alps out of the saddle.
Like I said before: Any crank ridden hard enough and long enough can, and will, break.
