Actually they were a subsidiary of Raleigh.
Originally Gazelle had been the name of a Raleigh budget model line that was later renamed Robin Hood to avoid confusion with the Dutch company.
Then still later Raleigh acquired the Dutch Gazelle company.
Dates? I don't have my Bowden handy but I believe Robin Hood was named in 1942.
