As most of you will know, I am a major supporter of all things Italian, but
my love of Italy cannot extend to road tandems. I have seen many Colnago
tandems in both Italy and Germany and have yet to meet one that I liked
(apart from their track tandems). This fellow is dreaming when he puts a
$5000 reserve on this tandem. Anything above is $2500 is cream. They were
not imported to the US in any numbers because they were far inferior to
others available from elsewhere. There are two types of bicycles that I
would never consider from Italy, apart from as curiosities: touring bikes
(randonneur style) and/or road tandems. I tried for 10 years to convince Ugo
De Rosa and his sons to build me a tandem, but they steadfastly refused.
Looking back now, I guess they were much more objective than myself. Instead
of the Colnago tandem, I believe a much more appealing tandem is the long
barrow tandem trike presently being sold on British ebay:

It is however neither list period time-specific, nor easily shippable. Otherwise for about $1500, it is a steal.
