I ride clinchers almost never, but I have a very nice set of wheels from the late 70s, Mavic Module E2 rims, campy LF Record hubs, from which I finally removed the butt-ugly (but nice-riding) wire-bead vittorias this morning, and attempted to install a beautiful set of brand new foldable, Kevlar-bead Vittoria Pro-Team CX TT tires. I got the first one on, no problem, checked the seating, pumped it up to 110 lbs. 5 minutes later, BAM!! It blew off the rim.
The E2's have a slight hook in the rim, sufficent to hold the tires, I thought. But apparently not.
Can the collective expertise here tell me: should these rims accomodate those tires, or is it a mismatch (I could have missed a bad seat somewhere, I admit)? I really want to use these wheels, but before I go searching for wire-bead Vittoria CX Pros with natural sidewalls (do you sell them, Dale? They seem *really* hard to find)...I'd like to know if the foldables should have worked.
Thanks for your help.
