The long course is 140 km of which 85 are on unpaved 'white' roads just like in the old days. There are people riding all types of vintage bikes, even though it is open to anybody on whatever bike they like, as long as they don't ride mountain bikes. There are many that ride turn of the century bikes with matching outfits. Their is also an accompanying swap meet that is a great place to find older lightweight bikes.

----------------------------------- Yes, there is/was a group of CR list members planning on attending after an article appeared in Velo-News about 1/2 year ago. A couple of Americans and a couple of Canadians are planning on going. There is also a tie in with Andy Hampsten's touring company in Tuscany and a package deal to include the L'Eroica. Some on the list were busy acquiring an appropriate bike to do the event with. The winner the last couple of years has been an Italian on a turn of the century race bike and a 1930s race bike! The only problem for me is that the event takes place the week before the big Velo-Rendezvous event that I organize in Pasadena Oct. 4,5 & 6. (See details at http://www.velo-retro.com).
