In the late '70's - early '80's I would make the drive from Toledo, Ohio to that "place up north" (Ann Arbor) to visit the Cycle Cellar. It was really a basement! If I remember correctly you entered down a set of outside stairs at the rear of the building. Not only were the Nobilette's made there, but they had a couple of Eisentrauts too. Perhaps an Assenmacher as well? A guy in our local racing club (3-time club champ actually) custom ordered a Nobilette. As I recall he was not very happy with the fit and it broke! I think a chainstay pulled right out of the bottom bracket. He took it back to Mark who was more than willing to replace the frame. This guy saw one on display & said "how about that one?" Done deal. David still races this frame - and wins his age group occasionally - steadfastly refusing to upgrade to ergo shifting. It is a pretty nice looking frame except for the pea green paint. Ichh! Also, my LBS has a fillet brazed tandem from Mark that he & his wife ride occasionally. It's quite nice. It has a proper Scarlet & Grey paint scheme (are you listening John?) befitting a Michigan football fan. Richard (no maze & blue bikes) Rose (Toledo, Ohio)
