All this talk of bicycle preservation has reminded me of a phrase oft uttered on an early television programme in Britain: "Mind my bike." I can't remember if it was on "Dixon of Dock Green" or at least by the character that played sergeant Dixon, perhaps on another programme of that era...Does anyone remember???? It refers to the fact that in many British working class households (mine included) the bicycles were often stored just inside the front doorway. This meant they were easily tripped over as you entered or egressed the house. These machines were the stalwart classic three speed types. Bicycles were an essential transportation element--we had no family car; four bikes, the local bus company and railway were what we relied on. Any help in remembering the origins of this classic phrase would be much appreciated. I often use it to anyone entering my garage but the significance of it is lost on them! Lawrence (evenin' all!)
