I have owned a number of Univegas, the Gran Premio handled like a dream but from what I have seen they are poorly built. I currently have a Super Strada and have seen someone elses Gran Premio which had poor construction and both are near top end bikes for Univega. They seem to be built without mitreing and rely on the lugs to carry the joint loads. The evidence of this is the head lugs buckled on the Gran Premio I saw after a front end crash instead of the usual buckling at the end of the butted section of the tubes. The Super Strada I currently own was struck with something which caused a dent in the top tube 10 inches away from front lugs yet the top head lug also deformed at the junction head tube. Good bikes if you don't crash or dent them or ride them too many miles. I believe Ben took short cuts which were unnoticed by most since most of them sat in garages and rusted. I would not hesistate to recommend them as riders despite this weakness. Brian in Berkeley
