Don't ask me, I didn't do the study I just read it. As I remember it he studied 4 or 5 people from 5' to 6'5" with crank lengths from 150mm to 185mm. The outcome was that 158mm was the most efficent and led to the least stress on the body. I don't have the copy of Velonews this was in and when I read it I remember thinking "Is this guy high?" Leonard Zinn is a long time framebuilder and technical editor of Velonews and was slightly bewildered by the results themselves. I wish I had a copy of the issue or I'd post a scan of it. enjoy, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives Prefers 170s in Santa Barbara, Calif.
