The source of Palo Alto frames has been discussed before, with no hard facts as to who built the majority of them from that era. I have not heard about any Masi connection and doubt there is one. I have one from the same era, and it has BMZ stamped into the bb shell. It's possible that could stand for "Built by Masi.............Zoink!" :-)

Came across a Palo Alto bike on Ebay, yeh...I know, and the owner stated This is a 1980 complete (without pedals) Palo Alto Bike Shop road bike that I purchased and built in 1980. It is a medium blue color and is a 52 cm frame. At the time the manager of the Palo Alto Bicycle shop told me that Masi made these frames (and that it is essentially a Masi) but I can't confirm that." When I was in the market for a frame back then I looked at the Palo Alto frames and thought they were nicely made and a good value, but never saw nor heard of the Masi connection. Anyone out in bike land know the story here?

Mark, another one...only if it were my size, Poore
