I'm not sure exactly how the digest is assembled since I just get the "real-time" e-mails, but I experience the same phenomenon occasionally. My advice to list members is:
Please make sure that the clock/calendar in your computer is accurate.
E-mails are time-stamped when they are posted, and then sorted at the receiving end based on those times. I saw one this evening that appeared on top because it was dated Jan 10, **2002**!
