Subject: [CR]concerning fork stiffeners & hubs

I thought some list members might be able to educate me concerning what I've always heard called fork stiffeners(the 2 triangular bits of metal brazed on the upper inside face of fork tubes). Over the last 3 decades worth of lugged steel frames I've owned, some have had these pieces, some not. What determines whether or not these pieces are used on a fork? All the bikes I'm refering to have been upper end, handmade, hand brazed, with Reynolds or Columbus butted tubing. I'mdefinitely not a pro or expert rider(2-4K mi.@yr),but I've not been able to tell a difference in riding quality caused by these pieces. Hopefully some of the CR list framebuilders & other knowledgeable types can fill me in.
Finally, on a different subject, does anyone have any idea of where I might be able to get my paws on a NOS or near mint set of Campy C-Record high flange hubs (preferably 36 or 32 hole)? Thanks for your longsuffering. Greg Brooks in too cold Ridgetop,TN.
