Hear ye hear ye: At the risk of popping the cake out of the oven before it is baked, I wanted to let the list know that some of us are planning to hold a Vintage Bike weekend in the Seattle area in August. Likely dates are August 8-10, and venue is the Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond. Here is the proposed schedule of events. Friday night, welcome party and rarest of the rare parts show at the Clise Mansion at Marymoor park. Saturday, short ride early, later a bike show (all makes of vintage road bikes welcome, with a (shameless plug) special section devoted to Davidson Cycles, as this is our 30th Anniversary), swap meet, and maybe some vintage track racing! Saturday night, banquet at the Clise Mansion with some sort of presentations. Sunday, a bit longer bike ride starting at the Velodrome, and see ya next year.
Many details yet to be worked out, but I am working closely with old friend and former employee Phil Miller, who is a bike facilities planner by profession, UCI International Commissar by devotion, and also happens to be president of the Marymoor Velodrome Committee. There will be a host hotel, again yet to be announced. The weather is guaranteed to be gorgeous that weekend so plan to come if at all possible. More details as things get settled. Nothing is written in stone yet including the dates. Keep your eyes peeled.
Some highlights you will get to see, by the way: Nelson Miller's stunning collection, Jeff Groman's amazing bikes, Mark Petry's, Jan Heine's, Troy Warnick's, and my meager collection, to name but a few. Let me know if you are a definite maybe and I will start a list.
Cheers!
