Subject: [CR]the campagnolo answer?

Campyphiles;

I didn't receive any responses to my question about campagnolo dt shifter changes between the 70's and 80's. Chuck Schmidt 'pushed' me to search the 'net for the answer...

So just when did the "newer" style dt shifter appear?

By no means 100% proof, but here's what I came up with:

1) Logic would have it after '79. That's post cpsc, and also new style SR rear der was in use.

2) I found several pictures of what appear to be original bikes from 1980 that still have the older "bumpy" style shifters.

3) For sure by '82, the Olympic catalog has new smoother style, with the "reverse" relief logo. There are lots of '82 examples I've seen have this newer type lever.

4) The black cage SR front der. was introduced in '82. It's somewhat logical that the newer levers came then too.

So, 1982 could have been the 1st year of the newer style levers.

This is interesting to me because, like the "world globe" lever hoods (up to and including 1982 as well), it seems that the "older" levers aren't nearly as "old" as I originally thought!! Boy, the newer style campy bits are much more common on ebay for sure!

So there you go, I've got to change the levers on my '80 colnago now!!! (got any for sale?)
