Could someone please help me on this question ??

What are those brakes , on that white , incomplete , eBay bicycle ??

I have a fine old , old , bicycle , bought from Mark Mattea , Cycle Smithy , Chicago , Illinois , U.S.A . It was the training bicycle for a former bicycle racer ( elderly man ) , somewhere in the Chicago area . The bicycle is in sad shape . But with a serious overhaul it would be a working machine . It is complete , but obviously not original .

It has Brazed-On fittings , four ( 4 ) of them , for just exactly those same brakes !! But since the original brakes were not on the bicycle , I was not quite certain what the braze-ons were all about .

It has a very high quality , all bright plated , frame and front fork . The plating ( nickel ? chrome ? ) is now very peppered with rust . There are some traces of maroon paint around seat stays and the bottom bracket . It has frame angles , and fork rake , that put it into the "Randonneur" category , to say the least . The geometry would look right at home on a Raleigh DL-1 Tourist , English Roadster ( or a Dutch grocery getter ) . It has enough wheelbase for two ( 2 ) chain stay bridges . The second bridge is a narrow rod , almost a wire . I haven't figured that one out .

The frame not only has brazed-on fittings for the brakes ( front and rear ) , it also has a brazed-on fitting for the rear derailleur , located about 2/3 of the way down the chainstay . The top tube shift lever is similar to , but not quite the same as , the one on the white eBay bicycle . It has a 3-Speed freewheel . The rear derailleur and shift lever are marked S.I.L. Made In Switzerland .

Being a former Chicago-land bicycle , it makes some sense that it's now equipped with a 1940's ( might even be 1950's ) Schwinn Superior crankset ( very nice crankset ) , and matching Schwinn-Built , side pull brakes ( very nice brakes ) . It also has a pair of fine aluminum tubular rims ( for sew-up tires ) with red decals which read , "OMELENCHUK Detroit Mich." .

The pedals give me no clues . They look to be normal all-steel Lyotard . But I can find no trace of a name . They are rather rusty . I don't know whether or not they once carried a name on their dustcaps !

The hubs are very nice one-piece , steel - rusty and name-less . The rear hub is for a freewheel on one side and a fixed cog on the other . Both hubs came with high-quality wing nuts .

It has oval ( road ) fork blades . It has front-facing ( road ) rear dropouts . But the lugs look as if they began life as duplicates of the ones on the white eBay bicycle ! The lugs on my road frame were reworked into the finest , narrowest points I believe I've ever seen .

But , I could easily believe that my road bike , and the white eBay bike , once carried the same brand name , maybe , possibly .

What are those brakes ?

Anyone have any of those brakes that they'd like to sell to me ?

What brand of bicycle might I have here ?
