Subject: [CR]cable routing, on the top or on the bottom?

My 1982 Trek has the derailleur cables routed on top of it's Cinelli bottom bracket, and the little braze on for the rear derailleur cable on the top of the chain stay. So did the Cinelli that I fell in love with as a teen and rode and raced on. My 1983 Prologue did not.

I always thought that was tres cool than have the cables run through some plastic dohickey riveted to the underside of the bottom bracket, but I'm not sure which is *better*

I ask because the mystery bike has the opportunity to have it's plastic dohickey replaced with a proper braze on cable routing when it gets painted. I also ask, because my new, not yet built, non list era bike comes standard with the plastic cable routing thing, and is it an affront against Proper Frame Building to do so? When did plastic cable guides come into standard useage?

I figure all the framebuilders on the list could provide information as to durability and functionality of the cable mounting on the top - and why everyone now has plastic dohickeys, even my precious, soon to be built, Waterford?

Ann Phillips, Atlanta GA don't hate me because it was 70+ today and beautiful, I had to work!
