Jerry, I had a pair--briefly!--and they were intended to have the cleats temporarily tacked on with a small number of nails, then permanently attached with a larger number of wood screws that were also included. That would seem like a potential downside of otherwise good pedals, that one mis-and-re-installation of the cleats would chew up the sole of a shoe too badly. That and they were introduced onto the market shortly before bolted, adjustable cleats. BTW, I have been told that those were made by Sheffield for Cinelli--anybody know if this is fact or not? Regarding cleats for leather soled shoes, I had the best luck by taking a pair of shoes with a good, distinct pedal mark to a shoe repair shop and having heel leather nailed on. Richard Heisler, a cyclist who at the time was a leathersmith for work, did an EXCELLENT job of this for people in our club of the time, La Grange-Westwood. Spoiled me for TA cleats forever.
